What Does an M&A Advisor or Business Broker Do?

M&A advisors represent sellers (or purchasers) in the sale (or purchase) of their businesses. A sell-side advisor will provide the seller with a valuation (proposed sale price) for the business, market the business, secure offers, guide negotiations, and manage the due diligence process and closing.

The typical advisor’s fee is a commission (comprised of a percentage of the transaction value) and a monthly retainer, which is later credited to reduce the commission at close.
